A first-of-its kind report reveals evidence of what our Advocates already knew from serving on the sidewalk: the abortion pill is dangerous for women.

Dangers of So-Called “Safe” Abortion Pill

A report published by the Ethics and Public Policy Center (“The Abortion Pill Harms Women”) states that nearly 11% of women (10.93%) experience harmful complications following a mifepristone abortion (one of the drugs used in the abortion-pill regimen). That means one in ten women experience at least one serious complication within 45 days of taking the drug.

According to the report, that is 22 times higher than the serious adverse events rate reported by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on the mifepristone label (supposedly “less than 0.5 percent”). Read more here.

These new, but not surprising, findings have reignited calls for the FDA to address these health risks by, at a minimum, restoring more stringent safeguards, and ideally, reconsidering the approval of the drug all together.

In the meantime, these dangerous drugs are flooding the market — making up over 60% of all abortions. And even more frightening, online-only abortions have risen to 14% (that’s about 40,000 more abortions than the year prior), performed via “dangerous chemicals” received in the mail with no in-person medical oversight. The risks to women taking these drugs alone, without medical supervision, is staggering.

Reversing the Damage on the Sidewalk

The good news is that our Advocates are trained to address the abortion-pill epidemic on and off the sidewalk, and with the amazing advent of Abortion Pill Reversal (APR), we are able to help moms even after they have taken the first of the two-pill regimen.

We have seen firsthand the miraculous power of the “second chance” that APR can provide, even when abortion providers refuse to acknowledge it as an option — like in the case of Martha…

“Martha* pulled up in tears to the abortion provider’s office. All she wanted was an ultrasound to find out if her baby was still alive. Filled with regret, Martha no longer wanted the abortion she thought was a solution. Just the day before, she had been told by Planned Parenthood that there was no way to stop the abortion pill process she had begun, but this hopeful mother raced to find another solution. That was the moment everything changed.” Continuing reading this amazing sidewalk story reported on by Live Action
