I have traveled the country, meeting with people and seeing their heart to save lives and end abortion. Here are a few things I’ve learned …
There is not one thing, one policy, one piece of legislation, one idea, one person, or one organization that will end abortion. It’s a heart thing — indeed, a spiritual thing — and it’s going to take all of us working on BOTH levels of law and culture (knowing one influences the other) to gradually end this scourge on our nation. That means not only voting for life and challenging our leaders to live up to their pro-life promises, but also becoming ambassadors for life in our communities, our churches, and most importantly, our families.
We have to equip the common everyday pro-lifer with knowledge of how to help friends and neighbors facing unexpected pregnancies to find the life-affirming help they need to choose life. Because even if we are able to restrict abortion in our own community and ban mail-order abortion pills, the abortion industry and its supporters will find a way around those restrictions: whether by shielding providers who mail the pills from prosecution or paying for women to travel across state lines for an abortion. Yes, one change in law may save lives, but it won’t fully prevent abortion because this is a heart-thing at its core. Don’t underestimate your circle of influence. Each of us can reach people that others cannot with an offer of help and hope when they need it most.
You and I can gradually eliminate abortion, community by community, by going to where it takes place or where referrals are being made and redirecting women to the local pregnancy center. We can be present as Sidewalk Advocates at abortion or abortion-referral facilities with life-affirming resources. (We’ve shut down 71 abortion facilities this way!) We can go into online spaces where pregnant women are seeking help or asking for abortion pills and offer OptionLine.org as a trusted resource. We can volunteer for or support a local effort to bring a mobile ultrasound unit into a high traffic area in our community to offer free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. Most importantly, we can pray — pray for the moms, the dads, the babies, and for all those who work in the abortion industry to see the light and embrace the truth.
