At the March for Life last week, I was asked: Why do we still need to march?
The answer: Because the sidewalk is everywhere, and people of good will are urgently needed to bring hope and help to every place abortion is threatening women and their preborn children.
I had the privilege to share this vision with Teresa Tomeo of EWTN the morning of the March.
The Challenge of Post-Roe America
During the interview, we discussed one of the biggest challenges in post-Roe America, namely the meteoric rise of DIY abortion in homes across America. This deregulated access to dangerous drugs without real medical oversight accounts for 60% of all abortions in the U.S.
These dangerous drugs are resulting in severe complications. Indeed, a recent study reported 1 in 10 women have experienced severe adverse effects from this abortion regimen, including sepsis, infection, and hemorrhaging.
We have seen this firsthand on the sidewalk when mothers have ended up in the emergency room after trusting the abortion-lie that these drugs are safer than Tylenol. If any other drugs were presenting these type of risks, they would be pulled from the market. We need to get the message out that women deserve better than the violence of abortion, particularly in their own homes.
Thus, the proverbial “sidewalk” where we share the truth in love about abortion must expand to address this new reality. Sidewalk Advocates are still boots on the ground outside abortion facilities that send women home with these drugs. But with so many women ordering these dangerous drugs through the mail, this crisis calls on every man and woman to be the hands and feet of Christ.
We are so proud of our Sidewalk Advocates who answer that call every day, including those who most recently braved the historic winter storms at the March for Life to share our message of hope that “Love Is Ending Abortion” — one baby, one mom, one community at a time.
We’ve Marched. Now What?
Here at SAFL, we will continue to bring love and hope to the women and children threatened by the abortion epidemic in all its forms. But we cannot do it alone. What will be your answer to the million babies that continue to die each year?
We urgently need more people of good will to join the fight and for our leaders to step up in courage, like Vice President Vance who spoke at the Rally before the March. While it is always refreshing to see our leaders stand in solidarity with us on this important day, it is simply not enough. We desperately need our leaders to join us on the “proverbial” sidewalk by taking real action against the abortion-pill epidemic, including at a minimum should include …
- Ceasing mail-order abortion and requiring in-person visits with a medical professional;
- Enforcing the Comstock Act that prohibits the mailing of anything intended for producing an abortion;
- Directing the FDA to conduct a safety review of the abortion-drug regimen — and they’ll see more than 1 in 10 women are experiencing adverse effects like sepsis and other serious complications.
This holocaust of innocent children and mothers in crisis need our Administration’s leadership right now. Please take a moment today to send your national leaders a message urging them to fulfill the government’s God-given obligation to protect all human life, including stopping the invasion of dangerous abortion drugs into our homes through the steps outlined above.
