I’M LAUREN MUZYKA
I’m an attorney and trained sidewalk counselor of more than 20 years who founded Sidewalk Advocates for Life, America’s largest sidewalk outreach organization that’s witnessed nearly 25,000 lives saved. We train, equip, and support people like YOU who have a heart to go to the darkest place in their community – the local abortion or abortion-referral facility – and offer mothers and families in need loving, life-affirming
alternatives.
My story on the sidewalk began in college, reaching out in front of Former Planned Parenthood Director Abby Johnson’s abortion facility …
The year before I started at Texas A&M University, a brand new Planned Parenthood abortion facility opened in our college town. I remember the local, peaceful, pro-life activist organization coming to area churches and asking the faithful if they would consider taking one hour a week to pray in front of the facility; to pray for the mothers and babies and to give witness to what was really going on inside this building. And I thought: I can do that; I can pray one hour a week in hopes of saving a life. Little did I know that that single hour would be my first step towards eventually launching a national nonprofit that would train people to go to the sidewalk outside abortion facilities, reach abortion-minded women with real hope and help, and save tens of thousands of lives.
Why I Do It
I remember when, as a sidewalk counselor, I watched the atmosphere outside the local abortion facility turn from something that was chaotic, apprehensive, and disorganized to something that was peaceful, prayerful, and purposeful. Suddenly, women were coming to the fence to talk to us. I wanted to shout from the rooftops that, whoa – this works! That when we put away our graphic images, our odd tactics, our anger at the abortion industry and just believe that prayer, peace, and love is enough – that we are enough – that’s when miracles start to happen. Then one day I asked myself: could we provide a ready-made, comprehensive training, tools, and support program for people who wanted to reach out to the women going into the abortion facility? That question was the very beginning of what grew into Sidewalk Advocates for Life.
